Performance (in terms of safety, quality, costs, and production) cannot be maintained without the application of standardized work. In a situation where standardized work cannot be followed - i.e., safety or quality is compromised, work should be stopped and a supervisor notified to provide support (pull the andon). There can be no tolerance for people who consider standard work optional. Those who do may need to be removed from the organization after working with them to understanding the reasons. This still points to a defect in the hiring process, though, and we need to know why we hired incorrectly and how we’re going to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for the comments, Kyle.Gregg Stockerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01727750230435526401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-860344269556202513.post-556844293979760932013-07-01T09:01:26.211-05:002013-07-01T09:01:26.211-05:00A great discussion topic for my neck of the woods....A great discussion topic for my neck of the woods.

Follow up question: What happens in a mature Lean organization--see Toyota--where an employee does not follow process, standards, or seek to improve?

In other words where is the line drawn for termination based on poor performance?

Thanks!

Kyle.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07778163294601180815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-860344269556202513.post-91613099718075358852013-07-01T08:57:30.182-05:002013-07-01T08:57:30.182-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07778163294601180815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-860344269556202513.post-51639238754815562032013-06-30T21:11:49.325-05:002013-06-30T21:11:49.325-05:00Good post.
